Please Note There are a lot of different motors for different applications. today I will focus on a Standard – light to medium traffic gate that does not exceed the weight of 500kg. On the typical household and small to medium office scenario. The usual choice would be either the Centurion D5 evo/smart OR Nice Drive 500/600.

 

So, let’s get to it, which one is better?

 

 

In my humble opinion both would be a great choice depending on YOUR needs. Here are a few questions that will determine what motor I would recommend and why.

 

My question: Do you have solar or an alternative power source during loadshedding?

 

If yes: My recommendation would be the (ET) Nice Drive 600 and here’s Why: It Comes with a powerful power supply unit that can operate the gate directly from your standard household power source (“220v~240v 50hz”) with or without a battery as an extra backup. This will reduce the running costs to a minimum as you would not be cycling charges through the battery that will ultimately have led you to call outs/battery replacements if / at all.

 

If no: Centurion D5 Smart, why? The D5 Smart just got smarter! It comes with 2 x 7ah batteries that will last longer than a single 7ah battery. It also has a power saving mode that will extend the operating time even further. Although this is an effective measure to combat loadshedding this can get rather expensive to replace batteries, we would recommend lithium batteries from the start, the new app update just launched that enables you choose via the smartphone app between normal and lithium batteries.

 

If maybe in the future: Depending on how far in the future the choice is yours, and we can discuss the options further.
